Breaking down an SRE engineer job posting

Today we'll break down one of the typical job postings — in this case, an SRE engineer at Sber-Insurance.

You can see the requirements in the screenshot. Let's go through them in order:

1 👌 Linux — how could we do without it? The foundation of everything that's currently running in the world (in one form or another).

2 👌 Docker — a specific case of using containers, but the most popular one. Well, this makes perfect sense too.

3 ❔ CI/CD. Here they've thrown everything into one pile. What does Ansible have to do with it? Sure, you could wrap it in there, but Helm/Kubernetes comes right after. So why bother? In general, CI/CD is of course a must-have.

4 ❔ Automation through scripting and interpreted languages. Well, first of all, from my point of view these are the same thing, but they're usually divided into interpreted and compiled. This matters, of course. But I'd also add things like Go to my skill set.

5 👀 Logging systems. In this case, the outdated ELK stack, but it's still very popular. I've covered modern alternatives before.

6 👌 K8s/Helm and everything related to it — few job postings get by without it these days.

7 👽 Working with Jira is no fun at all, and I'd gladly avoid working with it, but corporations love this overloaded monster. That said, there's nothing complicated about it, it just hurts a little.

8 👀 Microservice pattern — a common case nowadays, sometimes even too common. It seems like they're not micro but nano services.

9 👽 At least 3 years of experience. Ha-ha, well, it seems logical and not that much, but if you're just starting out, what are you supposed to do?

There are options: one of them is an internship working for peanuts, but afterwards you have a good chance of landing a real project.
